The Panels feature in FinStudio's trading software provides a comprehensive overview of various market dimensions through distinct panels such as the Summary, Strength, and Speed panels. Each panel serves a specific purpose, offering traders valuable insights into market dynamics.

Overview of Different Panels

Summary Panel
  • Functionalities: This panel provides a snapshot of key trading data for a selected instrument:
    • Bid/Ask Price: Shows the current buying and selling prices.
    • Time: Displays the time of the last update.
    • OHLC (Open, High, Low, Close): Offers a quick overview of the trading range and the closing price of the session.
    • Change: Indicates the price change from the previous closing.
    • Range: Represents the difference between the high and low prices in the session.
    • T&S Range: Time and Sales range, showing the highest and lowest transaction prices in a given period.
    • Sparkline: A mini-graph that provides a visual representation of price movements over a short period, aiding in quick trend recognition.

Strength Panel
  • Purpose: This panel measures the market's buying and selling pressure and is especially useful for assessing market sentiment.
    • Displays: It shows the strength of bears (sellers) and bulls (buyers) as a ratio between sell and buy trades, highlighting the percentage dominance of each group.
    • Utility: Traders can use this information to gauge the prevailing market mood and potentially predict upcoming price movements based on observed trading behaviors.

Speed Panel
  • Functionality: Offers insights into the velocity of trading activities within a specified time window.
    • Indicator of Market Volatility: The panel displays the average speed at which orders are executed, with higher numbers typically observed in more volatile and fast-paced markets.
    • Market Dynamics: Understanding trade speed helps traders identify times of high activity, which might correspond to market events or news releases, influencing trading strategies especially for high-frequency trading or during market openings and closings.

Benefits of Using These Panels
  1. Enhanced Market Understanding: Each panel provides different slices of market data, enriching a trader’s understanding of market conditions. For example, the Strength panel's insights into market sentiment can complement the basic price information from the Summary panel.

  2. Informed Decision Making: By synthesizing information from these panels, traders can make more informed decisions, combining knowledge of market sentiment, trade execution speed, and price trends.

  3. Strategic Advantages: The ability to quickly assess market strength and speed provides a strategic edge, especially in volatile trading conditions where understanding market momentum and participant behavior can lead to more timely and effective trading decisions.

Practical Application

A trader monitoring a highly volatile stock might use the Speed Panel to determine the best times to trade based on the frequency of trade executions. Simultaneously, the Strength Panel could help decide whether to enter a long or short position by showing whether buyers or sellers are dominating the market. Meanwhile, the Summary Panel keeps the trader informed of basic price movements and changes throughout the trading day.
